The first all-English international broadcast program in Chongqing, the 97th episode of "Let's Meet," titled “Petrena Schell: A Cost of Living Comparison Between China and Canada
”, jointly produced by the Western China International Communication Organization and Chongqing Satellite TV, will be aired on both domestic and international media on April 12.
Canadian travel vlogger Petrena Schell is an experienced traveler with over 54,000 YouTube followers, having traveled to more than 50 countries worldwide, and her adventures continue to grow. Africa is her favorite travel destination, where she lived for four years. Now, this seasoned globetrotter has embarked on her Asian journey, starting with the uniquely charming mountain city of Chongqing in China, where she will explore this magical 3D city for the first time.
During her time in Chongqing, Petrena collaborated with host Alex to conduct a unique cost-of-living comparison survey. They explored local markets, meticulously documenting prices of various fruits and vegetables, visited multiple residential areas to assess the rental market for single apartments, experienced the medical service process in Chinese public hospitals, and investigated clothing wholesale markets to understand daily consumption levels. They provided a detailed comparison and analysis of the specific differences in living costs between Chongqing and major cities in Canada, covering various aspects such as daily expenses, housing costs, medical care, and shopping.
After completing her travel experience in Chongqing, Petrena participated in a special interview with Alex. She expressed that her most profound realization from this field study is that Chongqing can offer a quality of life that is comparable to or even better than Canada, all at a significantly lower cost. As a seasoned traveler who has visited over 50 countries, she believes that Chongqing cannot be considered a high-cost city. If one were to choose to live here long-term, the quality of life could improve tenfold compared to Canada. She particularly praised Chongqing's convenient and efficient public transportation system and its high-quality, affordable healthcare services. These firsthand experiences have completely changed her previous impressions of China shaped by Western media. Petrena stated that she will share her authentic experiences and insights about Chongqing and life in China through her social media platforms, allowing more people to understand the true face of this Eastern country.
At the end of the program, Petrena enthusiastically shared her Chongqing journey on social media, sparking widespread attention and lively discussions. Many overseas netizens commented that they have developed a strong interest in the city of Chongqing.
