The 2026 China’s "two sessions" was held in Beijing on March 4. Yu Guodong, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) from Chongqing and Director of the Chongqing Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment, stated that China adheres to the principle of pursuing well-coordinated environmental protection and avoiding excessive development in the Yangtze River basin. Chongqing is solidly building a vital ecological security barrier in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River. This year, he suggested focusing on pollution prevention and control in the Three Gorges Reservoir area. He also expressed anticipation for the introduction of an "Ecological and Environmental Code" to strengthen the supervision of third-party monitoring, ensure the quality of monitoring data, and safeguard the ecological environment.
